Civil War Battle Reenactment in Sandersville

Now, this is a bit further away than I normally post, but I love history and thought you might enjoy it.  The City of Sandersville will be hosting a reenactment of Sherman’s Occupation of Sandersville on November 7th – 9th.  This is from their website.

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Washington County Historical Society (with guidance from the 39th Georgia Volunteer Infantry) are proud to host the 150th Commemorative Event of Sherman’s occupation of Sandersville, Georgia.  Reenactors portraying Federal troops and Confederate troops will converge on the town as it occurred 150 years ago.

The event will take place from November 7, 2014 through November 9, 2014.  The initial battle will occur in town at 10:30 a.m. on November 8 followed by various spectator activities through out the day.  Living history events will be on-going.  A second battle will occur on November 9 outside of the town.  All battles will include cavalry, infantry and artillery displays of warfare tactics used during the War Between the States.

They will have a lot of great activities going on in addition to the reenactment, and their website gives a very thorough list.  Admission is $5 a person.   And yes, if you want to wear your Civil War Uniform, I am sure they wouldn’t mind. You might even get drafted.  🙂

Sounds like a great way to make history come alive for our kids.
